Sit a spell if you ask Derrick Favors what colleges are on his radar.
He rattled them off Wednesday afternoon after his Atlanta Celtics lost a game at the adidas Super 64 basketball tournament at Rancho High in Las Vegas.
"Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Texas, UConn, UCLA, USC, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State," he said.
One of the top prospects in the next recruiting class, Favors joked that he couldn't even muster a top-10 list right now.
A kid of few words, the 6-foot-8 forward from Fayeteville, Ga., said he will wait to pick a college until next spring.
"Just to be safe," he said. "I want to make sure it's the right decision."
Favors said he has taken unofficial visits to UCLA and USC. Florida State, he said, has sent him the most amount of material in the mail. During contact periods, he hears from Seminoles coaches most frequently.
North Carolina coach Roy Williams was among the coaches who watched him foul out Wednesday with 11.7 seconds remaining against Pump N Run Elite. Atlanta lost, 72-68.
Remember his name. One recruiting expert in the Rancho gym said Favors should be one of the top five picks in the 2010 NBA draft.
"I've wanted to show that I can do more than just score, block shots and rebound out here," he said. "I've wanted to play within the team, but I'll probably have to go back to my old self."
Defeats do that to a kid.
