UFC 86: Stevenson wins

A funny moment:

With 30 seconds left in round one Stevenson had his arm stuck in Tibau’s guard, but wasn’t in any danger.

He actually asked the crowd if they wanted the fight to be stood up – looking up, shrugging his shoulders and giving a thumbs up.

The crowd wanted a stand up, but the ref wasn’t taking any advice.

The fight was a nice ground battle, which was expected since both guys are jiu-jitsu experts.

But Stevenson prevailed with a perfect guillotine choke in the second round.

BJ Penn has a seat in the crowd.

There’s no word yet. But Stevenson and Tyson Griffin, both winners tonight have to be on a short list to get a crack at Penn’s belt.

But they may have to wait for next month’s Kenny Floria vs Roger Huerta fight in Minnesota. The winner of that battle may be the number one contender.

Only one more fight – Ricardo Almeida vs Patrick Cote – until the main event.

Also, a quick correction: Stevenson was actually only 16 when he had his first pro fight in 1999.
