HBO Sports announced today that 1.25 million pay-per-view buys were recorded from last weekend’s “Dream Match” boxing bout between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao.
The number, which generated $70 million in revenue, represents the highest performing pay-per-view event in 2008. It’s just the fourth time in boxing pay-per-view history that a non-heavyweight match has been over the one million mark.
“Boxing fans across America showed tremendous support for this event and we’re pleased that they tuned in,” said Mark Taffet, senior vice president of HBO PPV.
A replay of the event will be shown this Saturday, Dec. 13 at 1:45 p.m. PT and 10 p.m. PT on HBO in connection with the live heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Hasim Rahman from Mannheim, Germany.
