The recruitment of Kansas transfer Quintrell Thomas was expected to come to an end following the upcoming holiday weekend.
Now, it appears that the 6-foot-8 New Jersey native would rather not have that impending decision on his shoulders over Memorial Day.
Thomas's former AAU coach, Derrick Bobbitt, told the Albany Times-Union on Tuesday that an announcement should be coming on Friday.
Last week, Bobbitt told The Sun that Thomas would wait until after Memorial Day weekend to decide between the three schools he'd taken official visits to -- St. Joe's, UNLV and Siena. Then, it was reported late last week on zagsblog.com that Thomas would make one more visit -- this time to Iona -- on Monday.
According to Bobbitt, that visit never took place.
Thomas averaged 1.5 points and 2 rebounds per game for the Jayhawks, who advance to the Midwest regional semifinals in Indianapolis this season. He will sit out the 2009-10 season per NCAA rules, but will have 3 years of eligibility remaining come the 2010-11 campaign.

Come be a Rebel, QT. This would be a nice get for the program.
Quit playin QT. Man up, you can see your mom in the summers.
I disagree. He averaged 9 points and 7.5 rebounds in his career for Saint Patrick High School. And 1.5 points at KU. I only see him as a backup at UNLV. And I am he would want to be a starter.
Look Again Bob
An all-state and all-county selection his senior season at Saint Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J... Averaged 14.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, two steals and two blocks his senior season... Named the most valuable player on high school team... Put up 25 points and 13 rebounds in Nike Super Six game against the No. 8 team in the nation... Averaged nine points and 7.5 rebounds his junior season at St. Pat's... St. Patricks beat out fellow Jayhawk Tyshawn Taylor's St. Anthony High School for the New Jersey state championship in 2007... The 2007 St. Patrick team was ranked second nationally by USA Today and finished 30-2... All-conference selection his junior season.
Fingers crossed. Let's go QT, be a REBEL!
I think saying he'd be a backup at UNLV really puts a ton of faith in the fact that we'll suddenly start recruiting blue chip big men out of high school.
We sure don't have anyone on the roster now that would put him on the bench.
As far as his numbers as a true freshman, give me a break. Look at Cole Aldrich's numbers as a freshman. Guess he was a doomed to be a backup player too. Oh wait, it turns out he IMPROVED his game between his freshman and sophmore years and averaged a double double last year after his minimal role as a freshman.
Situations change. Players improve. Different opportunities present themselves. Just because a true freshman is used in a minimal role (by the defending National Champion by the way) DOES NOT mean they were a bust or that they weren't good.
QT, go to Sienna. That's a team that wins their league and goes to the NCAA tournament and WINS GAMES!
Tark isn't here any more. It's over here and has been over for a long time.
go_rebels,
You MISSED the most important stat of all.....SAT ON THE BENCH at KU!
Oh yeah KU they really suck and don't have any great players. You just gave away your basketball IQ=0. If you would read KU blogs they had nothing but praise for this kid. It was nothing but a numbers game and some great players, but then again it is not my job to teach you how to read.
