Seattle Sounders FC sign Neagle to contract

Former UNLV soccer player Lamar Neagle has joined Seattle Sounders FC as a Senior Developmental player, the Major League Soccer club announced Wednesday.

Neagle was born in Tacoma and calls Federal Way, Wash., home. He led the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with nine goals in 2008. He is the fourth local product to wear the first-year Sounders uniform.

A 5-foot-11, 165-pound midfielder, Neagle was with Seattle for a two-week preseason trial run in Southern California, where he played in two games and had two assists. He returned to UNLV to finish his studies, and he began training with the Sounders a month ago.

"It's good to sign a local product to our team," Sounders coach Sigi Schmid told the Seattle Times. "Lamar's got excellent speed and he's a player who can play in a number of positions. He's very comfortable on the flank and has played on the left side as well as the right. He will get a look from us as an outside player, either in midfield or at the back."

Neagle and ex-teammate Rod Dyachenko, now with Minnesota in the United Soccer Leagues’ first division, are the only Rebels to earn first-team all-conference recognition three times.

Danny Cruz, another former Rebel, left school early and was drafted by the Houston Dynamo earlier this year.

Neagle is ninth with 27 career goals at UNLV.
