Former UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery Friday at 10 a.m. at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif.

The 90-minute procedure, to remove a bone spur that is pinching his spinal cord, had been set for Tuesday but doctors delayed it because Tarkanian’s blood was too thin, said Tarkanian's son Danny.

Tarkanian, who turns 79 next month, has not been walking well for several years because of his back condition.

Last week, he suffered two broken ribs and a broken shoulder in separate falls at his summer home in Pacific Beach, near San Diego.
