UNLV hired longtime Long Beach State coach Pete Manarino to coach its softball team.
Manarino spent 23 seasons in Long Beach, through 2006, and went 843-508-2 (.624). He directed the 49ers to five NCAA Women’s College World Series and went to 17 NCAA regionals.
“I feel so good about this hire,” UNLV athletic director Mike Hamrick said in a statement. “Pete is an experienced coach that has proven he can win and has proven he can take a program to the highest level of college softball.
“It’s a great addition to an already outstanding coaching staff at UNLV.”
Lonni Alameda left UNLV, for Florida State, in July.
