Derrick Jasper officially became a UNLV basketball player Monday afternoon.
The Kentucky transfer and close friend of Rebels guard Tre’Von Willis has enrolled in the school and will be a junior in 2009-10, after sitting out the upcoming season as per NCAA transfer rules.
A 6-foot-6, 210-pound guard, Jasper started six of 20 games last season, averaging 4.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. The Rebels could feature Jasper at the point and Willis at shooting guard in ’09-10.
In a statement, coach Lon Kruger said he and his staff have followed Jasper for years. They like his versatility and ability to improve everyone around him.
“He will be an outstanding ambassador for Runnin’ Rebel basketball,” Kruger said.
