The Los Angeles Angels defeated the New York Yankees in the American League Champion Series 7-6 on Thursday in Anaheim, Calif., forcing a Game 6 today in New York. The winner of the ALCS battles the reigning World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies, who clinched a spot in the finals Wednesday night by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue, who was the team photographer for the Detroit Tigers 35 years ago, shot these photos when the Angels and Yankees battled in Orange County on Thursday.
On deck for the Angels were Manager Mike Scioscia, John Lackey, Erick Aybar, Chone Figgins, Maicer Izturis, Vladimir Guerrero, Jered Weaver, Jeff Mathis, Brian Fuentes, Torii Hunter, Tim Salmon (who threw out the first pitch), Angels fan Kelsey Grammer and The Rally Monkey.
For the Yankees, it was Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon, Alex Rodriguez, Hideki Matsui, Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, Jorge Posada, Jose Molina, Joba Chamberlain, Mariano Rivera and A.J. Burnett.
Game 6 is at 4:57 p.m. today on Fox.
