The Los Angeles Angels teeter on the brink of elimination against the New York Yankees in the American League Champion Series. The Angels trail the Bronx Bombers 3-1, so it’s a must-win situation for them at 4:57 p.m. today in Anaheim, Calif. The winner of the ALCS battles the reigning World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies, who clinched a spot in the finals last night by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue, who was the team photographer for the Detroit Tigers 35 years ago, remains an avid baseball fan and captured these photos when the Angels and Yankees played Monday and Tuesday in Anaheim, with each team winning one game.
On deck for Tom and the Angels were Manager Mike Scioscia, Brian Fuentes, Vladimir Guerrero, Erick Aybar, Howie Kendrick, Torii Hunter, Mike Napoli and Jeff Mathis celebrating Monday’s victory.
In the Yankees’ Tuesday win, it was GM Brian Cashman, Reggie Jackson, Manager Joe Girardi, Derek Jeter, C.C. Sabathia, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Johnny Damon, Mark Teixeira, Hideki Matsui, Alex Rodriguez, Joba Chamberlain and Cano Robinson.
The all-important Game 5 is at 4:57 p.m. today on Fox.
