Top Chef: Las Vegas judge Padma Lakshmi has turned magazine cover girl, and I received a sneak peek at the new Vegas magazine that is available as of today. Padma’s interview in the gourmet issue of our sister glossy magazine reveals some interesting information about the Bravo personality. She spills the beans about her own eating habits, past contestants, what she looks for in a man and her life in Las Vegas.
Says Padma, who has hosted Top Chef for the past five years: “When I’m not working, it’s not like I think, Oh, let’s go have a big meal, because I’ve already spent so many hours eating at the trough.”
“I have a very sensitive palate. Even if I’m not hungry, I can taste something and break down if it’s good, why it’s good, what’s in it … you just have to look at it more like a bloodhound or a scientist.”
The single writer of two cookbooks -- Easy Exotic and Tangy Tart who divorced novelist Salman Rushdie in 2007, added: “I think the way to anybody’s heart is through their stomach. The way to my heart is through my stomach -- with a really great bowl of spaghetti.” Click HERE for that revelation.
Padma, who is pregnant with her first child, revealed that she hadn’t been to Las Vegas very often before she started Top Chef: Las Vegas, which was filmed primarily at The M Resort: “I wasn’t sure how it would be, but it’s turned out to be our best season ever! The food scene is incredibly vibrant and has attracted the top, high-caliber chefs who have wound up on our show.”
While here filming Top Chef: Las Vegas throughout the month of May, Padma ate at most of the Wynn restaurants and admitted that gambling is not her thing. She says the most difficult thing about her hosting is to say, “Pack your knives and go home.”
However, the Top Chef contestants still sing her praises, and the cover story has quotes from several past ones saying how nice she really is on the show. Top Chef airs on Wednesdays on Bravo.
