It was the day when the world’s fastest racecar drivers really tore into each other -- but with wicked humor and sensational sarcasm instead of trying to overtake one another at nearly 200 mph!
Our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was on assignment as Las Vegas Motor Speedway General Manager Chris Powell introduced roast host Kevin Burke of Defending the Caveman, who stood in at the last moment for Carrot Top, who was sidelined by the unexpected death of his grandmother.
Dale Jarrett and Jamie Little entertained the fans, and then it all belonged to the Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers. Reigning four-time consecutive champion Jimmie Johnson was in a hotter seat than behind the wheels of his car and bore the brunt of smashes left and right from Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Juan Pablo Montoya, Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards and Brian Vickers.
NASCAR Champions Week events continue through the weekend and include a victory lap on the Strip at 3:30 p.m. today.
