Lobbyist’s satirical email shows high cost of bet-hedging in special council election

Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012 | 8:44 p.m.

With a half-dozen to a dozen candidates in that special election to replace new Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson on the Las Vegas City Council, one local government advocate sent me a facetious email showing one way the supplicants can save money:

----

I have decided to run for Las Vegas City Council for Wolfson’s open seat.

Not because I necessarily believe I can do a better job than most of the other candidates, although that is entirely possible I suppose; but because I will run without asking for or taking a dime from anyone.

And that way neither me, nor my firm, nor my friends, nor our clients will have to respond affirmatively to the requests for money that are sure to come from the six or seven candidates in the race for Ward 2.

We can all just say that because I am in the race we simply cannot support anyone but me.

That is sure to save us and our clients thousands of dollars apiece.

I will expect a consolation dinner for me at the conclusion of the race. Assuming everyone participates, that should work out to roughly 65 cents per person.

Thank you for considering, BUT NOT VOTING FOR, me.
