Nevada schools well below average in funding, but not close to the bottom

That's according to a chart in the latest edition of State Legislatures, a publication put out by the National Conference of State Legislatures.

The chart, which I have posted at right, breaks down per-pupil revenue by federal, state and local sources. Nevada does not fare well in any of the categories, but the calculations, taken from U.S. Census data, indicate Nevada is not near the bottom of the nation.

The numbers:

Federal sources:

Average: $1,159

Nevada: $986 (35th)

State sources:

Average: $5,725

Nevada: $5,273 (32nd)

Local sources:

Average: $5,367

Nevada: $4,046 (33rd)
