Perry hires two staffers to oversee Nevada effort

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is putting some of that $17 million he raised this quarter to good use in Nevada, laying down a marker to let Mitt Romney know he will compete here.

Perry has hired Jeremy Hughes as state director and Kristin Vieria as deputy state director in Nevada.

Vieria is known in local GOP circles as the deputy director of the 2010 Nevada GOP Victory operation and has worked on other statewide campaigns in Nevada and other western states.

Hughes is an experienced political hand who ran the primary campaign for the Kentucky secretary of state who lost to Tea Party favorite Rand Paul last cycle. He most recently worked on Mississippi State Treasurer Tate Reeves' campaign for lieutenant governor. He also previously worked for Kentucky Rep. Geoff Davis and was executive director of Freedom Vote, an Ohio-based non-profit, focusing on voter turnout efforts in the state. And he also was tagged by The Huffington Post's Sam Stein for being involved in a controversial third-party effort in South Carolina.
