Sandoval vetoes Democratic redistricting plan, partisan nonsense ensues

In a move that surprises no one with a pulse, Gov. Brian Sandoval today vetoed the Democratic redistricting/reapportionment plan, claiming it violates the Voting Rights Act and is too partisan. The Democrats immediately responded by saying it doesn't violate the VRA and the governor is too partisan.

Any wonder people think this will end up in court?

I have posted the governor's veto message and the Democratic response at right. But wouldn't it be nice instead of the silliness of both sides accusing each other of partisanship -- the Democrats' actually accused Sandoval of an "overt" act of partisanship as if a covert one would be fine -- we would get releases that said: "Listen, this process is the most partisan process of all. We are both going to pretend we have the best interests of Hispanics at heart but all we care about is getting a long-term advantage so we can control the state's politics. That's why the Republicans, who are down 60,000 in voter registration, want a 2-2 split and the Democrats think they can get 3-1 in the congressional districts and, Sharron Angle willing, maybe a sweep."

Any questions?
