In advance of today's Clark County Commission hearing on sick leave abuse, the county fire union sent a message to its members and the elected folks. Whenever people say it's not time to point fingers, it's because they don't want fingers pointed at them.
Both documents at right.

what a joke? Like they never new their firefighters were abusing sick leave until the arbitration. I know firefighters and have heard them brag about sick leave, overtime, and how much money they've made.
It may be possible to have the respective employees pay the county back for improper use of sick time. Also, when I relate to my friends in other states what the average pay is for a Clark County firefighter, they don't believe me. They are very incredulous until I show them the data on TransparentNevada.com; at that point they become perplexed and then angry.
CRIMINAL CHARGES!!!
this must never happen again...
there must be a signal sent...
CRIMINAL CHARGES!!!
want to fix the problem of abuse of sick leave...
immediately...
forever...
CRIMINAL CHARGES!!!
Let's not forget about the people who negotiated, then approved the contracts that allow this. How many of them are still on the Clark County Council? Would you really vote for them again or for a higher office? (How much did this contribute to Rory's loss?)
Do a 10 year back audit and make them repay the stolen sick pay. They were violating their contract, it's that simple.
Even the homeless in Las Vegas are more respected than a firefighter.
The time has come for CCFD staff to face punishment for thier crimes against the public. It's kind of funny that the loud mouth fire fighters that were posting opinions about this matter at the onset of it all now have nothing to say. I would hope the penalties are harsh and swift, and make an example of what happens when you steal. Kudos to Commissioner Sisolak for exposing this abuse and shame on the rest of the commisioners for doing absolutely nothing. I know who doesn't get my vote next election.
Hello, where's the Justice System in Las Vegas? Isn't this Grand Larceny, isn't this a crime? Isn't this fraud? Haven't the firemen lost the publics trust? How much do we have to lose before someone takes criminal action against these PUNK-LOSER fire firefighters?
Fire 'em all!
The firefighters need to have their overtime controlled. If the managers can't handle it then you get rid of them. If the firefighters are unhappy they can look for jobs in Oregon or other states where the pay is one half of what they are getting.
I agree with the letter to the Commissioners that there should be an investigation. However, it should go back as far as the statute of limitations allows.
I am a taxpayer. I pay taxes. Firefighters who abused sick leave stole my tax money. I want them prosecuted.
Clear enough?
Any one agree with me?
Cognastics,
I agree with you.
Hey, David Rogers, where are the warrants for their arrest?
I agree too.
these clowns who thumbed their noses at the taxpayer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
fire 'em and replace 'em.
This IS why the public resist tax increases. Trust in our public services has been lost.
The firemen's pay in NOT a new problem but has come to light only in the face of budget issues.
Keep examining County expenses and you will find more waste, fraud and abuse.... the school district should be next.
The firefighters and their union were certainly willing to point fingers and cast blame in Rory Reid's recent campaign -- following him around at events with their "black truck."
Shameful guys. You've totally lost whatever little public respect and support you had left.
Public employee unions are the problem. Imagine if they didn't exist and we could pay market rates for salaries and benefits of public employees and hire and fire as needed like the real world. No hearings, no B.S. Just can the bad apples in the fire department. Get rid of the incompetent teachers. No defined benefit pensions and corrupt pension funds that are in reality responsible to nobody. The public employee unions serve nobody but themselves. As long as they exist we will not have hit bottom yet.
My question is: Why did the county agree to the NEW contract?
How about finding abuses like this, gathering the evidence that PROVES it is a conspiracy (not just one or two "bad apples") and then doing something ballsy like Reagan did?
Actually taking a stand against THIEVES? and VOIDING the contract.
Unlike the state, the county and other local governments are hamstrung by NRS288 which mandates collective bargaining and binding arbitration. Combine that with public employee unions either endorsing or opposing candidates that negotiate the contracts and you have a fiscal disaster on order.
yes boftx, but unlike states, cities and municipalities can decalre bk, and this would void the contracts.
If there is a deficit, file bk, and void the contracts.
@boftz
I can tell that the firefighter mess cost Rory my vote.
THE FIREMEN ARE ROBBING THE TAXPAYERS..THE MAYOR IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT THIS !!!! THE FIREMEN ARE OVER PAID THUGS !!!!PAID OVER 200,000 THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR !!! A HERO !!HA ! HA ! HA ! NEVER !!! FIRE THEM ALL !!!
