Doug and Cindy Hampton may lose their house at a public auction next month, according to a legal notice I have posted at right.
They owe $1.3 million. Doug Hampton has said he cannot find work since he went public about Sen. John Ensign's scandalous behavior, which has resulted in federal and Senate Ethics Committee probes. Ensign, in seeking money for his defense, has quite astonishingly played the victim.
Meanwhile, it appears the Hamptons are going to lose everything.

Why is this a story? There are tens of thousands of foreclosures in Nevada.
You write this as if Ensign is responsible for this family buying a house they could never afford..
Maybe Ensign's parents can step up again and write another check?

Worthless? Really? I once met Mr Ensign; he told me how important morality was in politics.
He was in the majority in the senate and there was a GOP president when the LV housing bubble was well inflated (it really started in the 2nd quarter of 2004 as best I remember ).

Doug Hampton caught his wife cheating with his boss....so he decided to try and extort money from him. The only problem was he didn't get enough out of him. I have no respect for any of the people in this story.

Ensign employed both of these people and the only reason they are unemployed now is because of Ensign's actions.
When they purchased the home they could afford it. They are not unemployed because of the Bush Cheney depression they aare unemplyed because Ensign could not keep his zipper up.

Doug Hampton has his wife to blame. It takes two to tango as there is no evidence that our illustrious Senator forced himself on her.
The gig for the Hampton family was rewarding and lucrative while it lasted, only until the married woman enjoyed the advances, resulting in the destruction of a family.
Our illustrious Senator may have swooned (legal) Doug's wife and it was the same wife that allowed herself to be swooned (dumb)
Cindy Hampton was not the partner that was in a position of authority, Ensign was. If she has denied his advances she and her hubby may have been fired. I am not excusing her actions however, Ensign is not losing his house, he did not lose his job, he fired both of them. It is his responsibility as the employer to not create a hostile work environment and one of sexual harassment.

The only thing more amazing is that it appears Ensign thinks he has a chance of getting re-elected.
They should move into the C street church where all the evangelical senators live. I don't feel bad for Doug Hampton, he lacked the courage to stand up to John Ensign when he learned about the adultery--he loved his power and job in D.C. more than his wife. He was then willing to beg for six figure jobs from a man who had sex with his wife to keep a million dollar home in violation of the rules. I would rather live on the street with a faithful woman than a mansion with an unfaithful woman. John Ensign broke the law by trying to find work for the husband of his mistress. I really hope he goes to jail. I voted for Ensign against Bernstein and Carter, I voted for Reid back in 98 when Ensign challenged him and would do so again. I will not cast a vote for anyone associated with this narcissistic hypocrite and thinks he should resign. He is an embarrassment to Christianity, Republicans, and Nevada.

Hard to feel sorry for someone "losing" a $1.3 mil. (or more) house. You could buy my house and a dozen others on my street for that kind of money. (I'm aware prices are down, but I'm sure that house is still in the upper end of the price range). If you can't afford it, Get an apartment or a smaller house. Try living within your means like I have had to do.
As far as Mr. Ensign is concerned, At least Nevads is equal opportunity.....You guys hava a lousy senator from each party (Republican and Democrat). Here in California, both of our lousy senators are from one party.
How about some stories about people who are still getting by (with some struggle), despite job loss, etc. After all, this day in age, when someone pays their bills......That's news!
That deed of trust is dated 8/10/2006.....right at the peak of the market. Either they bought with incredibly bad timing, or re-fi'd and got absolute maximum cash right before the crash.

Clinton has many affairs.

Ensign has not done that.
Clinton harmed not only his family but his political allies and probably caused Gore not to win.

Clinton promoted his girlfriend to a higher position from intern to full-time and then tried to land her a high paying job in a private firm.

Clinton was the 2nd president to be impeached in the US history (will be legacy and from 50 years from now will his main thing in history lessons and history exams)

I'm a conservative, I happen to dislike Clinton AND Ensign. Clinton should have resigned, so should Ensign.
When a Republican goes bad, most of us drop him like a bad habit (Packwood, Ensign, That guy from Idaho whose name escapes me, etc). And their level of "going bad" isn't as bad as the names mentioned below, but not "good" enough to be ignored by me.
When a Democrat goes bad (Clinton, Marion Berry, Kwame Kilpatrick, that guy with $90,000 bribe money in his fridge, etc). Somehow that seems O.K.?

I believe Doug would have done better if he handle things differently. But I understand why he went nuts after finding out about the affair. He should have followed Hillary's example and stood by his mate and milked for all it is worth.
I read the "notice of default". They will accept the proceeds of the auction in cash? That's interesting. There is potential there for money laundering. Why not invest your drug money in property and then sell it at a later date for a check that you can then deposit in any bank in the world?
