That's the gist of an agreement between the city of Las Vegas and the Culinary Union on redevelopment, an issue that once caused Mayor Oscar Goodman to call the labor organization "evil" after it tried to block the new City Hall project and erase the city's redevelopment district because the union claimed it was wasting taxpayer resources.
Now, all if forgiven as the union has agreed to stop trying to block downtown projects and the city has agreed to pass an ordinance mandating "large hospitality projects" make peace with unions (guess who?) before getting started.
So the Culinary agrees not to sue and signs a document saying City Hall is wonderful but gets a labor peace ordinance? Looks like the city doesn't just roll over for developers downtown -- now it has rolled for the union, too.
Shockingly, it appears His Honor was all talk. The Culinary may be exposed as hypocritical in objections to City Hall and downtown redevelopment, but better to be called hypocritical and get what it wanted, I suppose.
The agreement and a Culinary statement are posted at right and the pact is up for approval on the Dec. 2 city agenda.
This is EXTORTION via COERSION. We won't protest if you include us, duh!
Maybe we need to start looking at State laws to prevent this type of nonsense.
BULL SH.T NONSENSE!!! The unions Do Nothing except RAPE subcontractors who HAVE TO EMPLOY lazy,incompetent workers so the Union can extort millions from the Contractors and Developers ---For WHAT??

Oscar has a certain fondness for the organized criminal element. They are the ones who made him a welthy man. That is why he is always supporting the Union Goons in Las Vegas. I wonder how much they are paying him under the table?
If it weren't for unions, construction workers would be making half what they make now. Unions aren't perfect. And yes, some have been influenced by the mob. I can tell you with confidence that the Mob cared about working people way more then corporations do today!

Hey rebeltom- the construction workers are only worth one-fourth of what they are paid. If they made half of their current salary they would still be overpaid.
Good for Culinary. Good for Las Vegas. The anti-union chatterboxes with the bad grammar and spelling skills: fail.
What's the over/under of this project being completed on time and under budget? With the bonds being financed with easy stimulus money, and the Unions making sure that the work is of slow motion "craftsman" like quality, and the City inspectors making sure that they have no liability of any kind for anything, it's for sure that the taxpayer will be drilled down the road for more money. Will we ever learn?
