Latest vetoes: Hospitals can keep stuff secret and off-roaders need not pay

The Man Formerly Known as Governor has nixed two more -- and his logic is as twisted as ever. One would have made hospitals report more events; the other would charge higher fees on off-roaders. See the veto messages at right.

  1. Right now in a certain county hospital there is an illigall immigrant on life support, he has been there for over one week while they wait for the patients country of origin to come and get him. This treatment is costing the hospital over 100,000 dollars a day. I am sure this is not the only case. Why doesn't anyone report and investigate this stuff. County hospitals recently had to stop programs for cancer patients who are American citizens, putting more American citizens (staff) out of a job.

  2. "Why doesn't anyone report and investigate this stuff."

Hospitals are bound by law, and doctors by their ethics, to treat any patient that comes through the door. It would be a breach of both for a doctor or a hospital to withhold all treatment pending a check of the patient's papers - especially if the patient is in imminent danger of death or permanent disability.
