Jim Gibbons, a k a The Man Formerly Known as Governor, has seized on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's continual pronouncements that the dump is dead to raise a question about his real influence. Very clever. I have posted his letter to Reid at right.
Technorati

Gibbons is feeling refreshed. He was made to feel like someone important on a local talk radio show. They even had Italian food catered in.
Gibbons was bound to get something right eventually. Reid has been talking about the dump being done for years yet it still limps along, so much for the influence of our majority leader in the Senate.
Gov. Gibbons should read the NWPA. It does not authorize the Secretary of Energy to rescind the license application at this time. The only step remaining that legally can halt Yucca Mountain is if the NRC finds that it does not meet 10 CFR 63.
The lawsuits will fly if the license application is withdrawn. It will be just another sign of how Obama, not yet proven to being a legal US citizen entitled to hold the office, ignores its laws and his Constitutional duty to abide by and enforce the laws.
Even though neither one is worth a plug nickle,he does have a point?

Wow! You're one of those who still doesn't get it...Your belief that some how Obama is not a legal US citizen is no more that a desperate attempt to discredit Obama and invalidate his election. I might add, an election where a majority of the American people chose the candidate that they wanted to lead them. Obama had over 50% of the popular vote and 68% of the electoral vote.
The strange thing about all those (such as you....) who keep saying that Obama is not a US citizen is that Obama's mother was an American citizen which means that Obama could have been born any place in the world, and he would still have been eligible to run for the presidency.....
In Obama's case, he was born in Hawaii, a state in the union.
Move on with your ridiculous argument and center on something that actually may have merit to it....
By the way, John McCain, Obama's opponent last November, was not born in the United States. Did you just happen to over looked that little bit of information? How convenient!
hey! ease up on davelv. He hasn't been the same since the lobotomy.
At its root, this conflict is about states rights; the power of a state to veto a federal law. The issue was decided at Appomattox, but is camouflaged today, as phony science. In 1981, the federal government, via law, defined that spent fuel from civilian reactors would be stored in the same way as gold is stored in Fort Knox, and for the same reason, national security. With war pending, there was fear that an enemy could severely injure the US with attacks on disbursed gold deposits. In 90 days, all of the metal was shipped inland, to Kentucky, and stored inside an Army base.
By law, DOE was to receive and store spent fuel in Yucca Mountain on or before January 1998. Every US citizen, every one who paid a light bill, spent tens of billions to complete this vitally needed facility. Yet a few Nevada politicians totally defeated this legal mandate. They have destroyed a major industry, gravely weaken our national electric infrastructure, and corrupted our federal polity.
It is feasible to construct historic parallels in government - state - technology authority conflicts in the past, which were resolved by combat, societal violence. Yucca Mountain is a mortal threat to our nation, but not because of gamma rays. DOE has failed our nation. As did Nevada. Americans will suffer and die due to this hubris. Our nation can not survive this discord.
the government has already spent a billion or more dollars on Yucca. Do you honestly think they are going to abandon the project? not bloody likely chappy! besides I never heard a peep out of all the nevada people that worked there all these years. You folks just want the jobs to go on forever without having any waste stored, right? Well good luck with that. All the lyin' two faced, sneaky, backstabbing politicians that YOU elected are gonna start storing waste there and you ain't gonna do squat about it.
Hey davelv, Gibbons has read the NWPA. The license can be rescinded by the Sec of Energy. So what if lawsuits fly. The lawsuits will be between the nuke plans and the DOE and the NRS. We dont have to pay for those. The lawsuit we have to file against the DOE and the NRC after the license is approved will come from our tax money. I'd rather let the nukers file the suits and let them pay for it!
