Hi Jon,
Here's a presidential race "flash" from the voters of Florida. Do you know why the FL polls turned suddenly in favor of McCain? Because the old folks got wind of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid plan to save social security by nationalizing 401ks, IRAs and private pension plans. Yes, they will "buy out" union pensions and individual 401k's to bolster the social security trust fund. They will say they'll pay us in aug08 market value. They will justify it by saying the $$$ will insure that all senior citizens in the future will get their fair share. Looks like Florida doesn't want to spread the wealth. Lots of people with 401k's have good reason to worry. Hasn't Nevade heard about this yet? Ask Sen Reid.
Gee, Jan. Maybe Nevada hasn't heard about this yet because it isn't true.
Unless, of course, you have a reputable citation for it.
Also the polls haven't swung to McCain. The average still has the state leaning to Obama.
And agreed Patricia, where's the citation that Obama will nationalize 401ks?
I'm not working in a political campaign. I am a conservative Christian, but I will vote for Obama. He has run a brilliant campaign which I hope is indicative of the way he'd manage our nation. McCain's campaign has been sloppy, erratic, with a murky version of Bush economics. Since he seems to know little except war, all McCain can do is savagely attack and libel Obama.
Also, McCain has an extremely immoral personal past. Cindy, his wife, confessed to drug addiction and theft of drugs. There's Palins's pregnant, teenage, unmarried daughter,Bristol. If McCain wins, can you imagine the tabloid headlines? Constant jokes about Sarah Palin's lack of knowledge. Questions about McCain's adulteries. Will Cindy be back on drugs? Will the 18 year old shotgun groom stay with Bristol? What a terrible example for young people.
coronada, you forgot that Palin wants to take away abortion rights, even in the case of incest and rape, but not for her family. She's quoted as saying, "It was Bristol's decision to keep the baby." Well last I checked decision is synonimous with choice. So I guess her family can be pro-choice but we commoners can't. What a hypocrite.
CNBC (the business channel) on one of their panel discussions talked about "nationlize 401k's" as one of the changes an Obama presidency would bring. Heard it there last week.
Last week I read somewhere that somebody said something about someone calling John McCain stupid or gay or something. Heard it last week.
Who were the panelists? What exactly was said? Who said it? Did they put it in quotes, too?
If you think McCain has any real links to Bush please remember 2000.
Bush, a freshman Gonvernor of Texas gained the party nomination by aligning with the right wing of the Republican party (beat McCain ironically), ran a marvelous campaign against a popular Gore with support from a very popular Clinton. He was given no chance and eventually was decalred the winner. He then had to give concessions to all those who put him on top in cabinet positions, UN positions and administrative positions around the globe. Some of those people you might remember when New Orleans was under water in 2005, or when they sold out Powell that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction in 2004.
Who does this sound like? If you said Obama then you are right.
McCain isn't beholden to anyone, and he gets small business are the little engine that could in the US, not government. Obama is a fine guy, but he belongs in a theory class teaching about the history of people who theorized economies and the lessons we've learned so people can learn what not to practice, not practicing that govenment is our father and we all need to be protected as children...
"Who were the panelists? What exactly was said? Who said it? Did they put it in quotes, too?"
I can't remember the panelists, but I think it was on TV, so they must be reputable. And they used the words "gay" and "dumb" and "McCain" together. It was last week that I heard it. So, I'm not gonna vote for that guy. No way!
Patricia, I promise you I am not usually this sarcastic. But I feel overwhelmed with the near constant barrage of character assassinations and outright racism, hatred and lies being expressed here. I don't know what else to do but fight back with equally insulting remarks.
BTW, Bush sucks!
Turn 401k's into social security plans

I think this just shows what is going to happen.
The Democrats will control the Presidency, the Senate and the House and they will come up with all this crazy stuff and hope that the regular do not smell of it.
The media will help them cover it up, too.
That's an excellent article that does not, in any way, claim that Obama, Pelosi or Reid want to do such a thing.
Can anyone actually quote one of the three saying that they want to create these savings accounts?
No?
So claiming it's an "Obama/Pelosi/Reid" plan is actually a LIE. I don't believe either Obama, Pelosi, nor Reid has ever gone on the record supporting this, and I DARE anyone, but specifically Nance and JanK to prove otherwise... and thus to suggest it is their plan is a blatant falsehood.
McCain HAS gone on the record in favor of privatizing Social Security.
"When it comes to Social Security, Sen. McCain is a longtime supporter of private accounts, in which younger workers could divert a portion of their payroll taxes into personal accounts that would be invested in the market, ideally creating a nest egg that would be at least as big as what they would have received from the government -- especially as the program runs out of money."

Vote accordingly.
I find myself getting more and more sarcastic. It takes me a lot longer these days to hit the "post" button.
I'm so tired of the idiocy. Call it what it is; it's WELL beyond nonsense at this point. It's even past being funny any more.
Yet I'm constantly amazed that some can hold on to such an obviously failed belief system in the face of facts. (On the plus side, their numbers have dwindled to the "pathetic" range since they were so emboldened on December 12, 2000. Thanks for small favors I suppose.)
I wish I could just walk away from it, but having tried that several times over the past 15-20 years, I find it's still impossible. If I even convince one person that their belief system is built on a house of cards (and not a full deck at that), it's worth it.
Frankly I'm so sick of the mud slinging that whenever a commercial comes on I either mute it or change the channel. I don't want to hear any more of their bs.....words mean nothing because once in office a politician will always do whatever lines their pockets best.
