U.S. Sen. John Ensign tells Bob Schieffer he never said Joe Biden was more qualified than Sarah Palin to be vice president. But he did. A pair of transcripts below:
Face the Nation today:
SCHIEFFER: Let me ask you one other question, Senator Ensign.
I’m told that you said, the other day, in an interview, that Governor Palin has been a drag on the Republican ticket and that, in fact, that you thought that Joe Biden was more qualified to be a vice president.
Did you in fact say that?
ENSIGN: No, I did not say that. What I said was, Sarah Palin has brought out record crowds, that she, I believe, was mishandled by the campaign, but she has actually energized a large part of our base.
But the presidential campaign is about the top of the ticket. Barack Obama does not have the experience to be president of the United States. That was the point I was making in those comments the other day.
----
Here’s what he said Thursday on NewsONE at 9:
GILLAN: Do you think she's qualified to be President?
ENSIGN: Well, I do not think that Barack Obama or her are experienced enough to be President of the United States - neither one of them, and Hillary Clinton was much more qualified to be President than Barack Obama was, but that who the nominee is. John McCain is much more qualified than Barack Obama and certainly Joe Biden is much more qualified than Sarah Palin is. I'd rather have the most qualified person at the top of the ticket, not number two.
Technorati

How about what the Chairman of the House Ways and Means sub committee said about forcing your 401k into government accounts and taxing them so the government can invest it instead of the individuals. In the 30's Roosevelt broke into safe deposit boxes and seized the gold. Are we facing all that over again. Where do they stop?
n place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created "guaranteed retirement accounts" for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since "the savings rate isn't going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that's not generating what we now say it should."
How about focusing on the subject of the thread, neiman, instead of parrotting already-debunked right wing nonsense?
Oh nevermind; that's all you have. Sorry.
But feel free to cite the Congressional Record on this one.
As to the article, is anyone surprised an "R" is now lying? Anyone? Anyone at all?
Bueller?
Bueller?
It matters not what Ensign said. This was brilliant move on McCain's part in selecting Gov. Palin. It ruins, or at least diminishes a Hillary run in 2012 if age and looks are in play.
Ensign is a jerk, always has been, always will be. As far as Palin, her selection does absolutely ruin the republic party, hopefully for a very long time. She's an idiot and now everyone will see what that party is really about...thinking the American people are so stupid as to buy into the hype about a woman who is an embarrassment to herself and to the U.S.
Ensignificant obviously failed badly in his first shot at being party bigwig and now wants to lay it off on the intellectually handicapped Palinoid. Pout....whine...whimper
Looks like his chances of being her VP pick in 2012 are gone for good. Jeez...he can't even get on SNL!
Pout....whine...whimper
driteone - Are you kidding? Palin will cost him the election. Had McCain selected a running mate that was at least 50% competent he would be closer now. Ridge should have been his selection.
And leave it to a right wing nut case to bring up age and looks among Clinton and Palin.
I thank McCain every single day for his idiotic selection of Palin for VP. Sure made it easy to be a liberal, voting for a straight democrat ticket.
OBAMA/BIDEN!
Judy, Judy, Judy. You write: "And leave it to a right wing nut case to bring up age and looks among Clinton and Palin."
A right wing nut case? Well I guess I shouldn't be suprised by the name calling. It's what you Lefties do when they have no argument; personal attacks.
That said, it was your party that brought up McCain's age, not ours. Right or wrong, age and looks have plenty to do with every election. It's all part of the package, but I think you know that.
So Judy, I wish you luck on election day. Sit back, have another gulp of Kool-Aid and vote your emotions, rather than solid information. If your guy wins, hang on to your wallet,'cuz he's gonna make you help 'spread the wealth'.
I too am so happy Palin was the choice. McCain ruined his own chances and if he loses the election he has no one to blame but himself. Choosing Ridge would have meant the right-right wing would have chastised him. He should have realized they'd still have voted for him. They would have pouted but never gone over the line to Obama. Whereas the centrist GOP members were appalled by Palin AND willing to vote for Obama.
Ensign as well as the rest of us knows the real reason Palin was chosen by McCain. Palin was not chose for her knowledge as she demonstrated on many occassions. McCain did not know the lady!! McCain feels as though women does not deserve to make the same money as men while they are doing the same job. He stated that women needs more education. By McCain choosing Palin he demonstrated his disrespect for women. He assumed he would get the women votes because he chose a female to be his running mate after Obama did not choose Hillary. We all know what assume stands for!!!!!
driteone, Once again we have a right wing neocon who now wants everyone to believe that the right is the righteous party who does not speak ill of others . You must be impaired or be void of any memory. If you would open your eyes you would see the media and both parties have mentioned McCain would be the 'oldest' elected President,if elected and his health issues.
To demonstrate your ignorance,I don't know whether or not you have been watching but thanks to Bush, McCain and his chief economic advisor Phil Gramm deregulating the banking industry peoples wallets are empty now. Most intelligent people including Warren Buffett find the tax system discriminatory and unfair to working people and Warren Buffett agrees with Obama on these issues. That is why the wealthiest person in America is Obama s financial advisor .You I doubt, have the cognitive abilty to understand these not to complex issues.I'll take Buffetts word over someone who seems to not know the issues at all and the only answer they have is insults and fearmongering lies which the right has reputation for.
Ensign is a joke in Washinton D C and is best known for his golf outings. He is a spoon fed little rich kid who grew up to be a nit wit of the highest caliber.
