Gaming boss compared Obama to Hitler, Saddam and Ahmadinejad

Las Vegas Sands executive Bill Weidner made the comparisons in that incendiary speech he gave to an ADL dinner shortly before the election. I recently obtained a copy, which you can read at right and decide for yourself what you think.

  1. Wow, what a screwball. Also he's not too spot on in the history department either.

  2. He's not too keen on proper citations, either.

His footnotes for 21, 23 and 24 all reference an article in which the ascribed quotations do not appear.

So which is it? Is Bill Weidner lazy or dishonest?

  3. Ralston.....you are a silly boy.

Here is the section that you are hyping up:

"Remember, words have meaning. For Hitler, Sadaam, Ahmadinejad, Jimmy Carter and now
Obama, oratory is only the way they are presented. Barack Obama is one of the best orators in history."

  4. sheldons spear carrier does what he does, preaching hatred. he is cut from the same cloth as the nazis, different story same message.

  5. Let's see if Ralston and the Harry Reid-loving Sun will report this outrageous story. Why didn't Reid just call us peons or "the great unwashed." Let's see if the Sun is brave enough to show us what kind of "man" our dear senator is. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Still waiting.

Reid: We won't smell the tourists anymore

By Jeff Dufour and Patrick Gavin

    POSTED December 2, 2008 | 11:00 AM

The Capitol Visitors Center, which opened this morning, may have tripled its original budget and fallen years behind schedule, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid found a silver lining for members of Congress: tourists won't offend them with their B.O. anymore.

"My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway," said Reid in his remarks. "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true."

  6. I visited during the summer. There was something wrong with you if you DIDN'T have an odor. In addition, granting that the blogger is being a bit snotty--as is his right--why don't you try quoting the next sentence of the blog:

But it's no longer going to be true, noted Reid, thanks to the air conditioned, indoor space.

  7. "the essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers." This lack of empathy grows "out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair."

Brilliant words. Exceptionally true. And so much deeper than calling them "evil".

"In other words, poverty excuses Islamic jihad."

No, it doesn't Mr. Weidner. You only want it to so you can ignore the statement and ignore accountability. It simply explains some of the reasons why they are so upset. That's all it does and it does not excuse anything.

Utter detachment from accountability will most assuredly bring WMD attacks on our homeland sooner than later. Trying to understand the problems and relate to the issues is a step in the right direction and a step towards preventing that from happening.

Remind me to avoid the Venetian and Palazzo. No need to support this buffoonery.

  8. It amazes me that there are still uninformed people who think Reagan's Star Wars brought down the iron curtain - the Star Wars program was a total failure as anyone who worked in the aerospace industry knew. The Russian's economy was weakened due to the space race, Afgahnistan war, as well as the missile race, it was no contest to bring it down. Anyone who took at look at Eastern Europe's economy during that time would have had a clue.

  9. Of course it was the Soviet economic model that was void of any capitalism concepts that totally destroyed the Soviet's capibility to continue its cold war operations.

Star War's in the 1980's was a concept promoted by Reagan. It was and still is one of the most fearful concepts that challenges then Soviet and now Russian stragetic thinking.

In released intelligence reports, we now know that it was a key concern to the Politburo.
Gorbachev speaking at a session of the Politburo in October 1986 said this about Reagen's SDI:

"We will be pulled into an arms race that is beyond our capabilities, and we will lose it because we are at the limit of our capabilities. " If the new round of an arms race begins, the pressures on our economy will be unbelievable."

But I agree it was not SDI concept that won the cold war. It was a battle of economic and political theories over a 50 or so period of time.

Communism greatly harmed Russia's economy that still has its effects to this day.

Russia has a ton of more natual resources than the USA and is much larger in land size.

The USA GDP is 10 times larger than Russia's.
Our federal budget is bigger than Russia's entire GDP. Our defense spending is half of Russia's GDP.

It might take another century before Russia's economy recovers from the effect of Communism.

  10. I am never spending another dollar in any Sheldon Adelson-owned property. Ever.

  11. Google the name of Obama's long time friend and chief of staff - Rahm Emanuel.

Go to the wikipedia listing for Rahm Emanuel.

Does it say his father was an Israeli freedom fighter?

    Speaking of pal'n with terrorists.

The Obama dudes a hawk. America was duped.

  12. Vilate, I agree

  13. I also just remembered, wasn't Reagan a great speaker, hence the name the Great Communicator? So are we going to throw Reagan in with that crowd too? Morons like this CEO need to learn how to make better comparisons. When you throw out the Hitler/Islamo-fascist argument at someone, you just look really desperate.

  14. "America was duped."

So you think you're smarter than all those people? That you have the ability to discern something they could not?

Perhaps some day you will be able to go deeper than that. Until then, your inflation will continue to entertain others.

  15. Reagan the great communicator? BS.His trickle down theory and supply side economis failed - huge deficits. Nancy was the brains and in theory Reagan was B actor from Dixon Illinois and his real calling was radio.

  16. jfnance 32 just keeps coming at you. He never stops with his rants and I don't care who posts he has an answer for everyone. He is the master of spin. Silly boy.

  17. To expand on johnevegas' post...

The following comment comes from a CNN article on the lone survivor of the Mumbai terrorist attack.

"Kasab joined LeT (The group responsible for the planning of the attack) because he was poor..."

Looks like Obama's insight was pretty accurate.

  18. He might just be correct

  19. Is Obama a very strong pro-Israel government supporter?

  20. And how was it that saddam aquired weapons of mass destuction? Well we America, gave them to him thats right Reagan gave them to saddam to use on the iranians because they were at war with each other.
Why do people like Widner try to scare people into doing what they want didnt Ghengis Khan do this also. And bush also did this prior to his last election every thirty days there would be an alert from the homeland security, After the election no more alerts what happened.

  21. O is not pro israel. He apointed soemone anti jew.
Also Koran maybe used for swear in with rev right in attendence, with bill ayrs as a counsel yikes. Fairness doctrin will be renacted again since reagan removed it Hanity and Oriley will be history and Congressmen Barney will have his own radio show there goes am radio.

  22. Nice spelling there RBlackhawk.
First you are close to being bigotted. Why would it be wrong for Obama to be sworn in with a Quran. Second, Obama ISN'T a MUSLIM. Third, how will Obama get rid of Hannity and O'Reily? Really how?

  23. I will never visit a Sands property again.

Fortunately these people are old and will die soon enough. Nothing against old people, just these particular racist, foolish, hateful, greedy, egomaniacal jerks.

The election of Obama and his approach to building his cabinet is evidence of the American citizens belief and trust in a better government ( that is a big thumbs down to the rabid republicans on this site)and in Obamas integrity in that he is building consensus and not being partisan in his decisions.

The haters, bigots, ignorant and mean people who found a friend in George Bushs government will have to crawl back under their rocks. Its a new world.

"Something happening and you dont know what it is, do you, Mister Jones" Bob Dylan.

  24. It has been over 60 years since the creation of Israel so why are there still Palestinian refugee camps? The Arabs want it that way so as to have their own home grown terrorists. Until the Arabs started their stupidity in 2000, Israel supplied water, food, power, and jobs to the Palestinians. Things their own government would not give them. Until Hamas took power, the US gave untold millions of dollars in aid to the Palestinians. The people didn't see much of it. When Arafat died he was a multi billionaire. So where do you suppose the old terrorist got that money? Poverty is a tool that is used by organziations and governments to further their power base. You need to look no further than our own country to see it. The minority leaders live in luxury and power while their followers live in ghettos where life is cheap. Their failure to lift their people is explained as "whitey is out to get you" and anyone trying to help is silenced with the put down "trying to be white". Money allocated to help magically dissappears. With all the oil and aid money that has gone into the middle east, there should not be one poor person. Instead the leaders cater to themselves and the rich while using the poor as pawns to further their ambitions and power. If ignorance is bliss, most of the posters here today are most assuredly the happiest of people.

  25. Uh, you are either a bald faced LIAR or you flunked reading comprehension.

There are TWO relevant references to Hitler, and ONE to Saddam and Ahmadinijad in this speech. NONE of these references compare Obama to Hitler, Hussein or Ahmadinejad.

The first reference to Hitler has NOTHING to do with Obama (page 1) "... in my historical readings, there seem to be 10 Hitlers, Stalins, or Torquemadas to every one Mother Theresa, dozens of aggressors for every Gandhi. It's just that way."

The second reference merely states that, like Hitler, Hussein and Ahmadinejad before him, Obama has impressive oratorical skills, but the substance of his words reveals more about him than his speaking style.

(page 6) "For Hitler, Sadaam, Ahmadinejad, Jimmy Carter and now Obama, oratory is only the way they are presented. Barack Obama is one of the best orators in history. Don't be an 'Obamie,' a zombie-like memorization with his rhetoric; get a print out of what he says. I did on his Berlin Wall speech. It is in his own words, not in his delivery, where truth can be found."

Maybe you should focus on TELLING THE TRUTH instead of assassinating Bill Weidner's character because he happens to be conservative and DARES to challenge The One.

  26. @ newyorkrebel
Weidner has damaged his own character with his own choice of words. No attack from this peanut gallery can equal the damage he has already inflicted upon himself so please spare us the reading comprehension lesson.

  27. This is the same guy that bankrupt the Sands in Atlantic City and going to BK the Sands here. Can you say clown show????

  28. Way to go Bill Weidner, Freedom of speech, last time we all checked it was part of the Constitution

  29. Yeah it's also a part of the Constitution for the KKK to walk down DC's mall. That still doesn't mean we have to like the guy or support his business. This guy said stupid things, and he'll pay for it. However you take what he said, the fact that he put Obama in the same breath as Ahmedinajad and Hitler makes him a moron.

  30. Yes, way to go, Mr. Weidner. Exercise your right of saying STUPID things.
For what concerns me, I am not spending one dime at any of your properties.

  31. And this guy is the president of a major hotel/casino company? I'd say poor choice of words at best, dangerous rhetoric at worst.
