Gearing up for a final push

After going down to Fort Worth and taking on TCU, I think they're definitely a standout team. They're running on all cylinders right now.

It's the timing. They've got the right quarterback, the right safeties, linebackers, d-ends all there at the same time.

We have things to work on ourselves as a team to be able to beat a team like that.

If they go to the BCS, they deserve it. They've not only beat tough teams, but they've beat tough teams on the road, which says a lot about them.

The mindset I'm getting from everyone else around here is that what we're trying to do is devote these last three weeks to the hard work and everything we've put into this, so we can have something to show for it.

Making up for lost time. Making up for the unexpected situation that we're in. More than anything, just leaving it all out on the field, because the future is so unknown for me, the team and the coaches. At this point, our backs are really up against the wall, so you can either fight or decide to quit right now and give up. Those are your two options.

One thing I learned from being in this do-or-die situation last year with three games to go that I'll apply to these next three weeks is to never feel like you deserve anything without going out and working for it.

At some points last year, it was like that, because we were close with a lot of really good teams, beat Arizona State and I think a lot of the team thought it was just going to happen, instead of making it happen.

So that's a huge thing to focus on these next three weeks. We're gonna have to take it into our own hands and make sure this happens.

Colorado State reminds me of BYU or TCU in the sense that what they do doesn't really change. It stays the same, from an offensive perspective. Looking at their offense, they like to pound the ball. They're also never scared to wing the ball and just go deep.

You see a lot of long posts, a lot of slants, 15 or 16 yards down the field. In the passing game, they want big gains. In the running game they want consistent runs.

The key, I think, is being able to stop the running game.

If you look at this upcoming stretch by saying that this year is just like last year and try to connect the two, we could end up heading down the same path, which we don't want to do.

Maybe just taking it one game at time and not thinking about a bowl game at all is the best thing for us to do.
