NOW
UNLV sent out a press release this week that said baseball players Scott Berke, Drew Beuerlein and Rance Roundy helped lead the Rochester Honkers to the Northwoods League Championship.
Getting paid to type "Rochester Honkers" is not one of the main reasons I became a sports writer. I'd place it at the top of the list of "Others Receiving Votes."
THEN
The Rochester Honkers play their games at Mayo Field in Rochester, Minn., which means that if construction of the ballpark were delayed for whatever reason, a headline writer on the newspaper copy desk would have had to wrestle with the dilemma to end all dilemmas:
Do I really want to say "Hold the Mayo?"

Then the deck would present another dilemma. Do I really want to type "Players say: Lettuce play!"?
Sounds like the Honkers have a strong team...when they really pound their opponents would the headline "Honkers put on Mayo clinic" be far behind?
I'm partial to the St. Cloud River Bats but way to Rebels! The Northwoods games are a lot of fun.
