NOW
A team coached by Isiah Thomas (Florida International) lost to a team coached by Rollie Massimino (Northwood) in a college basketball exhibition game last night.
As David Letterman used to ask band leader Paul Shaffer "Is this anything?"
Well, it's something if you didn't know Massimino, the former and disgraced UNLV coach, is still pacing the sidelines at an NAIA school.
Actually, this is Rollie's fourth year at Northwood, Isiah's first at Florida International.
OK, the world can go on turning.
THEN
Upon taking the job at Florida International, Isiah Thomas said he would donate his first year's salary back to the school although there's probably somebody with the CBA's Sioux Falls Skyforce he still owes money to.
You may recall that Thomas purchased the CBA in 1999. Two years later, its 54-year run as pro hoops' top minor league was as dead as the two-hand set shot.

Disgraced? Please, Rollie as more integrity in his pinkie fingers than Jerry (the cheater) Tarkanian does is his entire body.
Diogenes,
Amen to that, brother.
Giving it your best effort and losing is no disgrace. Jerry Tarkanian won a lot of games, granted. Rollie Massimino did not, but wins and losses are only half the job on the college level. At least they should be.
Running a program that reflects well on the university is the other half. Prior to hiring Massimino, UNLV was disgraced by having a coach who flaunted NCAA rules at every turn. Can anyone say Lloyd Daniels? Do people remember players lounging around in hot tubs with convicted felons?
Anyone who holds a UNLV degree had that degree devalued by the shenanigans in the basketball program. The university was, and was going to remain, a national academic joke as long as it allowed the basketball coach to run the show.
Give me Lon Kruger and players like Rene Rougeau any day. We don't win as much as we did when Tarkanian was here, but we do win and we win with class. The team that represents our university is one that makes us justifiably proud.
Are you guys kidding me?
I'd be WAY more proud of my university if we were playing in the Final Four!
Only 4 teams make the four. UNLV has a competitive interesting team. Go REBELS!
