Mama, they took our Kodachrome away

NOW

Well, it's official. They finally took Paul Simon's Kodachrome away. And everybody else's, too.

The Eastman Kodak Co. has announced that after 74 years it will no longer produce Kodachrome film because these days, practically everybody is using their cell phone to take pictures.

Kodachrome gave us those nice, bright colors and enjoyed a brief comeback a few years ago when the University of Oregon unveiled its retina-scorching all-yellow football uniforms.

But since the Houston Astros did not bring back their multi-stripe yellow and orange uniforms from the Mike Scott-Nolan Ryan days, there simply was no justification for continuing to produce Kodachrome -- regardless of how much crap Rhymin' Simon learned in high school.

THEN

Do you remember what jersey number 5-foot-3 Paul Simon wore when he "upset" 6-foot-8 Connie Hawkins in a one-on-one basketball match on the second Saturday Night Live ever?

It was .02. -- "That's always been my number, ever since junior high school," the singer-songwriter told Marv Albert with a straight face before the match.

"It's not Connie's number, so I don't think there will be any confusion between us."
