UNLV could use a guy like new LVMS marketing exec

NOW

I don't know much about Mike Mossholder, the new vice president of sales and marketing for Las Vegas Motor Speedway, other than he held the same post at Churchill Downs and with the Miami Dolphins.

And that if he once played outside linebacker for his alma mater, it apparently never came up in the interview.

"While with the Dolphins," it says in the press release, "(Mossholder) was instrumental in securing corporate partnerships for the NFL team as well as for the 2007 and 2010 Super Bowls, the 2009 BCS Championship game and the Florida Marlins."

I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, but this is the kind of guy that UNLV should pursue to be its new athletic director -- provided it goes outside the city to find one, that is.

Mossholder has little or no background in motorsports. Doesn't matter. You don't need to know anything about right-side rubber to secure corporate sponsorships.

“Mike will be a key addition to an already strong staff here at LVMS," said speedway president Chris Powell before adding a line that you could see coming from here to Bristol, Tenn.

"We’re glad he’s decided to exchange horses for horsepower.”

THEN

I always though that if you were going to apply for a position with "The American Sportsman," it would be neat to have a business card with your name on it, followed by the inscription "Have Gun, Will Travel."
