NOW
I saw a headline on Yahoo a couple of minutes ago that said giant carnivorous squid had invaded waters off San Diego.
Giant carnivorous squid. Outstanding! This reminds me of the movies my old man used to watch on "The Early Show" after he clocked out of the steel mill when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, the giant squid usually fought a giant sperm whale at the end. Or a giant octopus.
I can almost guarantee that as I write this, a bunch of wild-eyed crazy guys on Mission Beach are slamming Red Bull and sharpening their harpoons.
THEN
It just occurred to me that "Giant Squid" would be a great nickname for Padres' closer Heath Bell. He's sort of shaped like one, and grew up in Oceanside, which is just north of San Diego.
While I am sure he has yet to battle a sperm whale, pitching to Prince Fielder with the bases loaded is sort of like that.

mmmm, giant calamari...
need a giant (B)ass to wash it down!
This guy's got a nose for squid:
