Utes seal BYU’s fate with a kiss

NOW:

So I'm watching BYU play Utah on The Mtn, or one of the 16 other obscure networks that carry Mountain West games, when the Utes' Tyler Kepkay throws in a runner over the Cougar trees for a real big basket during crunch time.

Luka Drca, the other Utah guard, approaches Kepkay to congratulate him.

Anyway, I'm expecting a high-five or a fist bump when Drca, who hails from Serbia, smooches Kepkay on the cheek -- not that there's anything wrong with that.

Guys in Europe smooch all the time, so no big deal.

And when you think about, is that really any stranger than the third-base coach patting the guy who just hit a three-run homer on the rump while he circles the bases?

THEN:

Two observations about third-base coaches:

1. They should have a colorful nickname, like Peanuts or Cookie or Moose.

2. If you were a .276 lifetime hitter, never made trouble in the clubhouse and your father-in-law doesn't own a car dealership or a hardware store, you can almost always become one.
