Time to get fleeced at Cashman Field

NOW

As I sit here, looking out the window, there are snow flurries in the air.

Friday night is "Fleece Blanket Night" at Cashman Field, where the 51s will host the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in their Pacific Coast League home opener.

As I sit here, looking out the same window, the 51s have yet to win a game. They committed six errors in a one-run loss at Salt Lake City on Monday and they are thinking about recalling Timmy Lupus from Double-A New Hampshire.

But at least the marketing department knows what the heck they are doing.

THEN

Sometimes, when I can't sleep, I think of cool names for fictional baseball teams.

The best one I remember from Tuesday night was Frostbite Falls Fungoes.

I don't think of cool names for the batteries of these teams. But Moose and Squirrel would be a good one for the Fungoes.

(Not Moose, as in Bob, the old Pirates pitcher. Or Moose, as in Chief, the guy who hunted down the Beltway Sniper. Moose as in Bullwinkle J. And Squirrel as in Rocky, The Flying.)
