Another side of Marilyn Chambers

NOW

The most interesting thing in my e-mail box this morning was a note from Jerry Kissell, who was writing about the passing of Marilyn Chambers, the ex-porn star and Ivory Snow box cover girl. Although not in that order.

Jerry was the P.R. guy for the old Las Vegas Quicksilvers pro soccer team, and he said Ms. Chambers, who was living in Las Vegas then, was the star of the Quicksilvers' one and only celebrity game.

"Our late general manager, Marvin Milkes, believed that a celebrity all-star game would be a natural in Las Vegas," Jerry wrote. "However, the Quicksilvers were soon to discover that none of the big stars were eager to play in this game and that the roster soon became a group of wanna-be lounge performers plus Marilyn."

Well, almost.

In a second memory-jogging e-mail, he said there were two stars of that celebrity game, one for each side. Foster Brooks was the other one.

THEN

A lot of people noticed that Chad Campbell, the former Rebel, had a UNLV wood cover in his bag as he battled tooth-and-nail for The Masters championship this weekend.

I noticed that, too. But first I noticed he was wearing a golf shirt with "Jani-King, The King of Clean" stitched over his heart, which must have made the proper types at Augusta National recoil in horror.

It kind of reminded me of the original "Rocky," where Stu Nahan mentioned Rocky Balboa was wearing a robe that said "Shamrock Meats" on the back.
