Pride of the Posse still going strong in CFL

NOW:

Fifteen years ago, Anthony Calvillo led Utah State to a 42-33 victory over Ball State in Las Vegas Bowl II at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Fourteen years ago, he was the starting quarterback for the short-lived Las Vegas Posse of the Canadian Football League.

On Thursday, he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the CFL.

On Sunday, he and the Montreal Alouettes lost 22-14 to the Calgary Stampeders in the Grey Cup, the CFL Super Bowl.

It was the sixth time Calvillo, 36, started at quarterback in the Grey Cup. His record in those games is 1-5.

Still, you'd have to say when it comes to the original/only Posse, he turned out to be a much better player than Tamarick Vanover.

Plus, he never helped finance a marijuana trafficking ring.

THEN:

Every time I think of the Posse, I also think of its coach, Ron Meyer, strolling around a makeshift practice field in the Riviera parking lot, wearing nothing except a pair of way too short coaching shorts.

Of all the reasons not to think of the Posse, that is probably the main one.
