Cubs may play midweek games at Cashman

NOW:

For the past few seasons, the Chicago Cubs have played their final exhibition games of spring training at Cashman Field.

This year, they will play them at the new Yankee Stadium, where, it can be assumed, they have nicer batting cages.

It doesn't mean the Cubs won't be returning to Las Vegas for what has become a bigger springtime event, at least around here, than Groundhog Day.

Las Vegas 51s officials and the Cubs are in negotiations that would result in the Cubs playing in a couple of midweek games at Cashman Field earlier in the spring.

The sides are still working on an opponent.

Cubs fans are hoping it won't be the Dodgers after this season's playoff sweep. Or, for that matter, the 1984 San Diego Padres.

THEN:

Somewhere in Cub Fan Hell, Steve Garvey is running around the bases with his right fist in the air after taking Lee Smith deep at Jack Murphy Stadium.

Actually, there are a lot of scenes like that in Cub Fan Hell. That's just the one that comes to mind at the moment.
