First a transformer blew near a Las Vegas Strip intersection Tuesday evening, then a water pipeline burst at the north end of the resort corridor this morning.

Southern Nevada Water Authority crews were doing some maintenance work, but a water pipeline failed about 7 a.m., shutting off water to the Las Vegas Hilton, four Turnberry Towers and part of the Riviera today.

Water service should be restored by mid-afternoon, the water authority said.

Nevada Power crews restored electricity to the Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur and Four Seasons Hotel after a transformer failed about 8 p.m., according to Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison.

Casinos continued operating on backup generators, Allison said. Firefighters and hotel engineers worked together to rescue people trapped in elevators. No one was injured, he said.
