The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners just announced that Dr. Dipak K. Desai, owner of the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada where six cases of hepatitis have been confirmed, has voluntarily agreed to stop practicing medicine, at the board's request until the board's investigation into the operations and allegations concerning the center has been completed.
The board did not give a timeframe as to how long the investigation may take.
Technorati

It's about time!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, except that he should not voluntarily stop practicing medicine - his license should be revoked so that he never practices medicine again.
Mary, you've got your headline wrong. He didn't surrender his license. As you say in the body of your article, he merely agreed to "voluntarily stop practicing medicine" for some indeterminite period of time.
What a weasel!
Did Dr. Viswinder Sharma resign as chief of staff at Spring Valley Hospital yet? I notice that neither he nor the other two principal partners in the clinics have voluntarily surrendered their licenses.
Is it me or should we all be worried that all the money, and I mean looking at the past ten years records, this clinic made some serious cash. Every name I here is Indian or Far Eastearn in sound, the money may already be gone..
Is he fleeing the country?
Is he disclosing his political contributions?
Is he paying into any fund to compensate victims?
Just curious...
Want to hear something really incredible? When Desai was "slapped on the wrist" for false advertising by the Nevada Medical Board, he was on the Board, served as Chairman of the Investigative Committee, and the Board actually discussed how they could dismiss the complaint against him. He got off with just a fine and stayed appointed to the Board. Seems to me that any other person would have been dismissed from any position of authority over their peers. Welcome to Nevada!
The only way get to Desai is to get his money, most of which is probably in trusts or already out of the US. Losing his medical license, losing Medicare billing privileges, even loss of status won't bother Desai as much as losing the millions he's collected over the years.
Not a one of you know what your talking about. I presented to Dr. Dipak Desai almost 20 years ago with what was once called "Non-Specific Hepatitis" Dr. Desai personally performed three biopsy's on me without any problem and oversaw two interferon (one standard, one with rebetol) treatments. I can assure you I've seen more of him over the last two decades for my HCV than anyone posting here. Dr. Desai has also seen several members of my family, all with no problem. I am willing to wager that with time, evidence will show that these cases were as a
result of staff, NOT Dr. Desai himself.
