Wind blows in pollution advisory

Seasonably warm weather with winds around 15 mph may bring a rise in air pollution on Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service says.

The Clark County Air Quality and Environmental Management Department advises residents that ground-level ozone may rise Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Ozone is a gas that occurs naturally high in the atmosphere and protects Earth from the Sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. However, ground-level ozone is a key ingredient of urban smog during hotter months in Southern Nevada. Ozone at ground level can affect lung function and worsen respiratory illnesses such as asthma or bronchitis.

Monday's high temperature was 95 degrees and the high for Tuesday is expected at 97 degrees.

On Wednesday an unseasonably cold system is expected to bring winds from the north and high temperatures that will drop into the 80s by Thursday.
