Updated Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 | 10:15 a.m.

(Originally posted at 11:43 a.m.) Metro Police have arrested 32-year-old Jason Shellard of Las Vegas after he returned to the area where a SWAT team had earlier evacuated about a dozen homes near Buffalo Road and Cheyenne Avenue.

Police took Shellard into custody without incident shortly after 10 a.m., police said. He has been charged with domestic violence battery, assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in a public place, police said.

About 4 a.m., officers arrived at Shellard's home near Buckskin Avenue and Cimarron Road to investigate a domestic dispute. Shellard had fired at least one round from a shotgun, police said.

When officers could not contact Shellard, who was believed to be barricaded inside the house, SWAT and police negotiating teams were called.

When the SWAT team could not reach the suspect, they entered the home and found no one inside. Police believe Shellard left the area before the first officers arrived.
