Plea for higher ed money goes online

Nevada's higher education officials were by no means quiet as the governor requested and then mandated budget cuts.

Regents and administrators lobbied government officials behind the scenes, and Chancellor Jim Rogers' efforts, including a harshly worded four-page letter to the governor, were widely publicized.

Our neighbors to the West, facing tough times of their own, are using a more modern tactic.

The University of California System, which has been asked to slash $332 million from its budget, is making the case for more funding through an extensive, multimedia-heavy Web site dedicated to the budget crunch.

Besides begging for money, the site shows how the UC's health and other programs benefit Californians.
