Henderson mayor to be ‘guest scooper’ for poverty program

In a partnering that may seem stranger than the short-lived ice cream flavor Chocolate Orange Fudge, Ben & Jerry's is joining forces with the ONE Campaign to raise awareness over the fight against global poverty and preventable disease.

To endorse the partnering, Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson will be a guest scooper at the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Shop inside the Galleria Mall tomorrow from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. as a part of Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day, April 29. Gibson serves on Nevada's ONE Campaign advisory committee.

In addition to providing ONE Campaign material, Ben & Jerry's locations will be promoting their newest flavor - ONE Cheesecake Brownie - as an avenue to bring more voices to the movement.

According to David Lane, the CEO and president of ONE, the partnership between the grassroots campaign to raise public awareness over global issues and the nationwide ice cream chain makes sense.

"We are both passionate about doing the right thing," Lane said. "This combined undertaking is a creative way to bring people together to learn what each can do to fight poverty."
