Democratic club chairman blasts Angle staffer for ‘racist’ Facebook post

The chairman of the Stonewall Democratic Club of Southern Nevada, a grassroots Democratic LGBT organization, is calling out a member of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle's staff for what he calls "casual racism."

Derek Washington contacted the Sun about a Facebook posting he saw on Jordan Gehrke's wall. Gehrke is Angle's deputy campaign manager.

"went to the Clinton Library yesterday," Gehrke's post reads. "To my dismay, they did not in fact have beads in the doorway. Had the urge to walk in and shout 'Where the white women at?!' ala Blazing Saddles. Ultimately decided against it, lest I be mistaken for one of the employees."

Gehrke wrote the wall post in December 2009. Washington said a friend found it and forwarded it to him.

"Not only is it offensive, it's really stupid to be posting this kind of stuff where anyone can see it," Washington said. "I can't imagine ANY campaign manager openly being so, if not racist, insensitive."

A call to the Angle campaign was not immediately returned.

On his Facebook page, Gehrke wrote that he was "just being lighthearted" when a friend asked why he visited the museum if he didn't respect it.

"Nothing here to be shrill and overly earnest about," Gehrke wrote.

  1. I've come to expect every action from the Angle camp to expose just how low-down, dirty-rotten, and plain old mean these folks are.

Think they represent your values? Ha!

New slogan for the Angle campaign: We don't care if you were raped by your daddy but stand still while my business makes a profit off of raping you.

  2. tarbox, and others of his ilk, practice the new right-wing tactic of overt racism;
"You can say anything racial you want! When someone calls you on it, just CALL THEM A RACIST!!!"
    Wow.
    We are SO FOOLED.

  3. SO...
Which "former poster" is now posting under the user name tarbox60???

  4. Tarbox60 - if you elect Sharron Angle, you'll be begging for that dog catcher's job - if it even still exists. Since Angle couldn't care less about helping create jobs for Nevadans, it will be one of the few available jobs around.

  5. He waited all this time to go public with this scintillating, boring, idiotic alleged post. Boy, you Dems are truly grasping at straws now. Polls released today show Angle 49% Dirty Harry 43%. Does this mean we can expect more made up dirt from Reid's camp until the election is over? You make yourself less credible with each new bogus PR release. Why not try a new approach - pretend Harry knows what he's talking about and play nice for once in his life! He's gonna hate the retired life in Searchlight! Buh Bye Horrible Harry!

  6. The action of Angle's deputy campaign personifies the Republicants. They have no respect for themselves or anyone else. They find some poll(fox news, republicant biased)that show them favorably and they think the election is over. The only polls that counts is Nov 2nd. We will see how victorious they are then. Never ever vote for a Republicant.

  7. The comments by neo-conservatives just keeps rolling on and on and on.

Calling Senator Reid "greedy" and "dirty" and other things is actually pretty hilarious.

Especially when their candidate has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that she performs these attributes without any shame or guilt.

But such is life when you are a right winger. A right winger that has their party of no out of power; proven to be totally and completely incompetent. The only recourse is just to play childish games and throw the proof back, but make sure you do it by jumping up and down and screaming it and repeating it over and over and over and over again.

The voters in Nevada are not fooled.

We prefer sanity. Over "juice" and tea.

My vote goes for Senator Reid.

  8. The problem isn't that a staffer made such a blatantly offensive remark, but that Ms. Angle and the GOP never bothered to reprimand the staffer. I believe that says as much about Ms. Angles campaign as it does about the people she has working for her. I'm sure she has many good people working for her, but why didn't any of them say something?

The American people deserve representatives that can disagree with their opponents without resorting to childish name calling that is normally relegated to a first-grade playground. And some of the comments are so low as to be an insult to first-graders.

  9. Oh my gosh, dickerjd. I laughed at that comment by Bill Maher.

There's another one he commented about that you might find humorous. In referring to the differences we have politically here in America...

"The left has went to the moderate center and the right has went to the mental institution."
