The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) has rolled out a second television ad targeting Republican House candidate Joe Heck.
For the second time in a week, the labor union is accusing Heck of wanting to privatize Social Security. The television commercial features Phyllis Hamilton, a single mother with 40 years in the workforce.
"If it was up to Joe Heck, he would have erased her retirement, gambling it away on Wall Street, turning Social Security into another Wall Street bailout," the commercial says. "Tell Joe Heck that's not a risk Phyllis or any of us want to take."
Like the first ad AFSCME released, the commercial is inaccurate.
Under Heck's proposed plan, Phyllis Hamilton would have the option of investing her share of Social Security in the private market - if she chose to.
Heck is not calling for mandatory private investment, nor the dismantling of public Social Security. Instead, he advocates for giving people a choice to decide how they want to invest. Employers would continue to contribute to the existing Social Security system.
While her name is never mentioned, AFSCME launched the commercial on behalf of Rep. Dina Titus, Heck's Democratic opponent.
The union plans to spend $750,000 in media buys to help Titus get re-elected.
Democrats also are organizing a protest with Las Vegas-area seniors this afternoon at Heck's campaign office.

UNION HATE I remember when the unions were american.
Unions do nothing but protect lazy incompetent workers.
nez212: my wife has been in the Culinary Union for more than 21 years. At one time or another, I was a Teamster, Steelworker or Maritime union member. I am neither pro nor anti union, but they lost their way years ago when aligning themselves with socialistic values. I always resented their taking a portion of my dues to politically back political parties. That's not what they were intended for. Lobby for their cause, yes, but they should remain neutral politically so they would not be taken for granted and it would benefit their members in a much more positive way.
The ambiguity of the article! How could one invest in Social Security and privately at the same time? Just like vouchers which would destroy public education. I don't have a TV but how are the Anti Titus ads ? another phony union busting column about a supposed smear.Heres a smear : The John Birch society , Ayn Rand, The Tea party, Joe Mc Carthy and Joe Heck one and the same. Don't say that Joe was not in full medical regalia down on the strip with the tea baggers; the picture was printed in the paper. This sounds alot like the old privitize personalize Angle rigamarole.
ATTN: ALL CONGRESSMEN & REPRESENTATIVES!
If you voted for Obamacare-------Your GONE

If your for card check (unions)-- Your GONE
If your for cap & trade---------------Your GONE
Please COPY & POST as often as you can...they will get the hint!
Enough with vouchers destroying public education. Schools get a free ride on the taxes of the 20,000+ private schoolers (not to mention all the home-schoolers)whose parents choose to pay for their childrens education. Those parents still have to pay school taxes just like everyone else; and the school districts keep the money and don't have those children in the system to educate.
Your for busting Unions : Not going to make it
Privitizing or Personalizing SS : No votes
Against the Self dealers in Health care : your Staying
For limiting carbon dioxide: Staying
Against Rich bankers : Staying
If you are in the union that represents the grocery industry. Just check out Glaziers and you will see where your dues are going to.
Agreed, it's too far. It maybe better to point out that it would be the 1st step in full privitization of Social Security. 1st choice then none. Only privite, then we'd be at the mercy of the banks. Remember the mess they caused with our homes and credit? Want that with our retirement?
LV Sun, I can't believe your liberal bias printing this article! (Sorry, couldn't resist repeating what I read every day when the Sun points out how Angle contradicts herself) LOL
Can anyone point me to a link that shows Heck's Social Security plan? Didn't see it on his website. Since current beneficiaries are paid by current workers, I'm curious how Social Security can pay its obligations in the future if it's not receiving all of the money it's supposed to receive. On the surface, Heck's plan seems to make Social Security run out of money earlier than currently expected.
The Sun falsely accuses AFSMCE of smear- again
Why doesn't the LV Sun require this to have facebook posts? Only their pro Reid "political" articles requrie facebook sign-ins. Maybe I'm misunderstanding their rules but still!
This is the same old crap the Unions and Democrat party used two years ago to defeat Heck in his State Senate run. Lies work when you have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend and a candidate who has limited funds. Unions stink! I know who Dr Heck is and will vote for him!
"That is flat out indisputable."
How about this:
"A 2009 Harris/Decima poll found 82% of Canadians preferred their health-care system to the one in the United States, more than ten times as many as the 8% stating a preference for a US-style health care system for Canada while a Strategic Counsel survey in 2008 found 91% of Canadians preferring their health-care system to that of the U.S."
It's so easy to dispute the indisputable when you have those pesky little things called FACTS.
Heck's a solid, stand-up guy... doesn't deserve this kinda crap. The ideological and political difference between Titus and Heck is miles wide and choosing between the two is no trick. I'll take Titus.
Good point bg. The only way to phase out Social Security would be to stop bringing money into the system, but to continue paying out the contracted amounts until the current beneficiaries are dead and at the same time refunding or rolling over the money of current contributors into a private fund. The cost of doing this would make the current budget look like pocket change. And what would be the ultimate result? Banks would be in charge of our retirement rather than the government. Ask anyone who's in foreclosure if that's a good idea.
I haven't seen or heard anything about Dr. Heck that would make me think he's a bad person so I don't think it's right to hear people make personal attacks against him. This is the same problem I have with he people that sling some incredibly nasty slurs against Sen. Reid. If you want to disagree with his political ideology, fine, but the personal attacks are unacceptable. He is a truly nice person and has the respect of people that know him even if they have differing political views.
If you don't like his political views, then don't vote for him. But remember, over the last 14 years the majority of Nevadans have chosen him to represent them in Washington.
Joe Heck AND ALL GREEDY REPUBLICANS WANT TO
PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY.
Never trust greedy republicans.
Letting people OP OUT WILL DESTROY
SOCIAL SECURITY.
Don't let these greedy republican thieves
steal our Social Security.
SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY,
VOTE DINA TITUS.
Rich physicians have A bombs ; Unions have pea shooters. the fight ain't fair. Vedi would say Dr. Heck is another fascist soldier in the war on the middle class.
Where is Joe McCarthy when he is needed most, NOW that he has been proven right?
I have been in the IBEW, Teamster, Engineers and stagehands unions and found them to be useless, they protect people who don't want to work and the incompetent. These unions plus the Socialist employees international UNION (SEIU) are more dangerous to this Country than any external threat could ever be.
Union busters, fake anti-communists,and Joe Heck should be discredited.Bust too big to fail, there lies the incompetents.
