UNLV hoops practice or American Bandstand?

Ever try competing with Santana or KC and the Sunshine Band, or Usher, for your basketball team’s attention?

That’s just what UNLV coach Lon Kruger contended with late Saturday morning at the Thomas & Mack Center, as something akin to “American Bandstand” took place next door at the Cox Pavilion when Kruger directed his second hoops practice of the young season.

For the most part, Kruger said he did a good job tuning out “Get Down Tonight” and “Oyo Como Va,” which blared at high volume a concourse away, but he admitted that it was a challenge to focus on just basketball during breaks.

And for the Rebels’ part, no player looked like he was tempted to shake or jitter, even a little bit, when Usher’s “Yeah!” boomed from across the way.

I went to a concert and basketball practice broke out? Yeah, it was something like that Saturday morning inside the Thomas & Mack Center.
