The wheel in the sky, and the turntables operated by star DJs, keeps on turnin’ in Las Vegas.
The classic-rock band Journey and a series of electronic dance music artists are set to perform at major Las Vegas resorts this year. The Hard Rock Hotel is bracing for Journey. MGM Grand is prepped for a lineup of DJs at Hakkasan Nightclub.
Announced today at the Joint is a nine-show series by Journey beginning April 29 and running through May 16. Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 16, with prices starting at $59.50 (absent fees).
Tickets can be purchased at the Hard Rock box office and AXS.com/JourneyLasVegas and by calling 888-9-AXS-TIX. For additional information on VIP access and offers, go to VIPNation.com.
Journey’s residency is a first for the band at the Joint, but they have performed frequently over the years at such venues as Pearl at the Palms, Mandalay Bay Beach Club and Planet Hollywood Theater for the Performing Arts (now Axis at Planet Hollywood).
Still in the band’s lineup are co-founders Neal Schon on guitar and Ross Valory on bass, joined by longtime members Jonathan Cain on keys and Deen Castronovo on drums. The singer is Arnel Pineda, in his eighth year with the band after being discovered famously by Schon on YouTube in 2007 as he sang in a classic-rock cover band.
Journey’s career has been boosted over the past several years with its hit “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” being played on “Glee” and “The Sopranos.” The band has recorded 19 Top 40 Billboard singles, and its “Greatest Hits” album has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.
EDM performers, including those booked in 2015 by Hakkasan, have sampled Journey’s hits. Made public today is the club’s new, exclusive roster of DJs, including Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, DVBBS, Tchami, Ummet Ozcan and Don Diablo.

The announcement for the expansive lineup arrives just a month after Hakkasan announced that it is taking over The Light Group’s nightclubs and restaurants. The company is planning to open the 75,000-square-foot Omnia nightclub at Caesars Palace, formerly Pure, this spring.
The Joint The Joint, which holds 4,000 people, features seven luxury suites, a VIP studio level, a state-of-the-art sound system and a superior video system.

Hakkasan Hakkasan is the new five-level 80,000-square-foot upscale restaurant, lounge and dayclub and nightclub in the MGM Grand that is opening April 18 in the space formerly occupied by Studio 54.
On the first floor is Hakkasan's main dining room, a Cantonese restaurant decorated with lattice cages. The eatery is set to open May 3 and will be captained by Chef Ho Chee Boon. It will serve dinner from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. The Las Vegas menu hasn’t been released yet, but the company’s other locations feature soups, small plates, seafood, meats, poultry, tofu and vegetables.
On the second level is a private dining room that will cater to diners with deep pockets. While the menu is the same, the room offers a panoramic view of the restaurant below.
The third floor brings the 10,000-square-foot Ling Ling lounge, an intimate nightspot that acts as a transition to the main nightclub upstairs.
Above that? Another club: Hakkasan’s main nightclub. Hakkasan’s DJ lineup will include some of the biggest names in the electronic music industry: DeadMau5, Tiesto, Calvin Harris and Steve Aoki. Other artists include Danny Avila, Dada Life, Bambi and Quintino.
And above it, the Pavilion, an Asian garden with its own bar and DJ.
Hakkasan’s nightclub will be open Thursday through Sunday, from 10 p.m. until “late.” Guests must be 21 years or older.
Cover charge and table reservation prices vary. Online tickets for upcoming events begin at $30 for general admission tickets for women. Charges for men presumably are higher but aren’t listed.
Reservations for the nightclub can be made at hakkasanlv.com or by calling 891-3838.
