The first big-name concerts of 2015 will be staged at MGM Grand Garden Arena, as Justin Timberlake is booked to perform on Jan. 1 and 2 to close out “The 20/20 Experience World Tour,” which also played Grand Garden Arena in November 2013 twice and August and is set for Nov. 28.
Timberlake’s shows will be directed and recorded by Jonathan Demme, who won an Oscar for “The Silence of the Lambs” and also directed “Philadelphia” and “Rachel’s Getting Married.” Demme also was the director of the great Talking Heads concert film “Stop Making Sense.”
The Timberlake performance is intended to serve as a concert film produced by Gary Goetzman (“Mamma Mia!,” “Stop Making Sense,” “25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert”).
Tickets for Timberlake’s shows are $89.50, $119.50, $149.50 and $279.50 (absent fees). They are on sale beginning 10 a.m. Friday at all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster.com and by phone at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available at MGMGrand.com. Tickets are limited to eight per person. MasterCard holders and members of Timberlake’s fan club, The Tennessee Kids, are given early presale access. Timberlake’s lengthy tour, spanning two years, has been to boost his latest release, “The 20/20 Experience — The Complete Experience,” which was the highest-selling album of 2013, with 5 million units sold and 15 million individual tracks purchased online. The album was lavishly honored, as Timberlake won three Grammy Awards and seven Billboard Music Awards this year.
