Last weekend was one of the most memorable in NFL history, for several reasons.
For starters, it marked the first time in league history 100-plus touchdowns were scored in a single weekend.
Adding to the excitement were the wild weather conditions that affected many of the games. The field for the Lions-Eagles matchup looked better suited for a giant slalom than a football game. The snowfall was so intense and continuous that the teams went for two points after every touchdown but one because neither thought they could convert an extra point by kicking. (They were right — the one attempted kick was blocked.)
Finally, there were frenzied finishes in several games. Five touchdowns were scored in the final two-plus minutes of the Ravens-Vikings game, which had a record six fourth-quarter lead changes. The Patriots scored twice in the final two minutes to edge Cleveland. The Steelers nearly pulled off a lateral-filled final play for what would have been the game-winning TD against Miami.
With three weeks remaining, the Chase for the Golden Nerf is also set for another frenzied finish. Andrew Freeman of "Raiding the Rock Vault" leads with a 25-17 mark against the spread, but seven competitors in the field of 16 local celebs and media personalities are within striking distance, including defending champ Donny Osmond. The Flamingo headliner is riding an 8-3-1 run over the past four weeks to climb from eighth place into fourth, three games behind the pace-setter.
