A respiratory infection has forced Elton John to cancel three shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, two of them scheduled during a traditionally bustling Memorial Day Weekend. The shows pulled from the schedule are tonight’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s.

A posting on John’s official website, along with several published reports, confirms John has been suffering from what a statement refers to as “a serious respiratory infection” that dates to his May 20 performance at the Colosseum.

His condition worsened during the week, forcing him to be admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles early Wednesday morning. After a battery of tests, the attending physician recommended John not perform for a week and to treat the condition with antibiotics.

In a statement, John said, “It feels strange not to be able to perform these 'Million Dollar Piano' concerts at the Colosseum. I love performing this show, and I will be thrilled when we return to the Colosseum in October to complete the 11 concerts soon to be scheduled.

“All I can say to the fans is sorry I can't be with you. I hope to see you soon at this wonderful theatre at Caesars Palace."

Ticket-holders for the canceled shows can exchange or refund tickets from their original points of purchase.
