It came off as a genuinely dizzying episode.

Overcoming a forgotten costume and making an abrupt change in music, the Skating Aratas turned in an inspired performance for today’s episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (airing at 3 p.m. on KLAS Channel 8). The clip of that appearance is embedded in the column, on the off chance you had not noticed that, and find the overhead view here. The appearance was to promote “V – The Ultimate Variety Show” at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, a production that closes with the Aratas’ spinning skating act.

Several months in the making, the Aratas’ performance on “Ellen” was recorded at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif., after a wild-and-wooly drive by the Aratas (the roll-with-it, married skating duo of Vittorio and Jenny Arata) with “V” producer David Saxe and his publicist, Shelley Bruner.

The trek was marked by panic caused by a late change in the music the Aratas were permitted to use on the show and a dispute over why Jenny Arata was heading to the couple’s biggest single performance without her stage costume.

About two hours before the Aratas’ 2 p.m. call time to show up for the taping, the crew stopped at a Macy’s for outfitting (Jenny is wearing what look to be Daisy Dukes and something akin to a bra) and summoned “V” music director Jerry Lopez to come up with new music for the taping. The couple settled on "My Body" by Young the Giant, as they were not cleared to use "Muse" from the "V" show.

The act itself was performed flawlessly. As DeGeneres so aptly put it after the Aratas’ spinning performance, “Oh my God!”

And she gave them a couple of bedazzled gifts, too. At the end of this strange trip, it was all worth the effort.
