A few quickies on a rather cold, even for Idaho standards, Monday morning:

*Visionary food and beverage exec Tom Recine, late of New York-New York, then Luxor and most recently Planet Hollywood, is joining his friend and boss Tom McCartney at Tropicana. Expect an official announcement today from the Trop. Recine has said his professional passion is looking at a space and figuring out how to best fill that space with something guests will want to visit. He'll have a lot to work with at the evolving Tropicana, with its new South Beach theme, restaurants and room renovations already underway.

*The Miss America Organization has settled on the judges to join beauty and grace expert Rush Limbaugh for the Jan. 30 show at Planet Hollywood's Theatre for the Performing Arts. They are actress Vivica A. Fox, Miss America 2002 Katie Harman, 2008 Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Shawn Johnson, celebrated smooth jazz artist and talk show host (on the Smooth Jazz Radio Network, fittingly) Dave Koz, comic actor Paul Rodriguez and one-time "American Idol" finalist Brooke White. The venerable competition airs on TLC.
